First inspired by the arrival of silver-spotted British Shorthair cat Mr Peter Wells (otherwise known as Percy) in 2013, his owner Sonja Farrell began shopping for the necessary cat paraphernalia to welcome her new kitten. Finding herself disappointed by the quality and aesthetic of what was available – with her main frustration being the lack of high quality, leather cat collars, which were also safe for Percy to wear - Sonja founded Cheshire & Wain.

Back in 2013 leather collars with breakaway buckles for a cat's safety simply didn't exist, so that became Cheshire & Wain’s key focus, designing one from scratch. Now ten years on, luxury leather cat collars remain at the heart of Cheshire & Wain’s offering, but the brand has grown significantly. Expanding the cat family, Miss Penelope Agatha Wells has joined the fold and she purrs alongside Percy, as an official Cheshire & Wain model and co-chief of product testing and approval.
